Parishioners of All Saints parish, formed in 1982, celebrated its first Mass in what is now the home of the City of Sunrise Recreation Department. Led by Father Anthony Mulderry and Sister Millicent Zimmer, who joined the church in 1982 as the pastoral minister, the parish thrived.

When South Florida’s first “boom” had begun to reach its peak in 1924, Father Michael Mullaly arrived in Hollywood to start a new mission, Saint Anthony, for the growing Catholic population. He brought only a suitcase packed with his vestments, two candles, a wooden chalice, and a small silver statue of the then newly canonized saint, Therese of the Child Jesus, popularly called the Little Flower.

Established in 1989, the Archdiocese’s 104th parish, Mary Help of Christians continues to serve area Ethnically diverse worshipers have formed an array of ministries within the parish. Parishioners attending the Spanish Mass come from many countries, enriching the church’s spirituality with their diversity.

Mother of Our Redeemer, established in 1988, continues to serve Catholics in the area north of Miami Lakes. Father Fernando Compaired, the founding pastor, served the parish from 1988 to 2005. The first Mass was celebrated at American High School before moving to a storefront a nearby shopping center. The parish erected a parish hall that continues to function as a meeting and worship space for more than 1,200 families who attend its seven weekend Spanish and English Masses.

Founded in 1960, The Church of the Nativity of Our Blessed Lord continues to serve the Catholics in Hollywood. Father Hugh J. Flynn, the first pastor, celebrated the first Mass in a tent large enough for 1,200 parishioners. Outreach ministries formed quickly, first the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the Nativity Guild, followed by the Holy Name Society. Parishioners also began religious education classes.

Established in 2001, Our Lady of Guadalupe serves Catholics in Doral, a city as young as the parish. Led by founding pastor Msgr. Tomas M. Marin, the city’s first Catholic parish attracted more than 3,000 families from 44 countries in a short time. Mass was celebrated at the Eugenia B. Thomas Elementary School cafeteria until December 2015, when the parish, under its second pastor, Father Israel Mago, dedicated its permanent church, chapel and parish center, located on the corner of N.W. 25th Street and 116th Avenue.

Radio María (RM) nació en Italia. Inicialmente una radio parroquial que apareció en 1983 en Arcellasco d’Erba, en la provincia de Como, en la diócesis de Milán. En enero de 1987, RM se independizó de la parroquia y se formó la Asociación Radio María, compuesta por laicos y sacerdotes, con el fin de desarrollar una obra de evangelización a mayor escala. En efecto, la RM no es patrimonio de una congregación o de un movimiento en particular, sino una iniciativa de los católicos abierta a cualquier realidad eclesial en comunión con su Jerarquía. Un laico, Emanuele Ferrario, jugó un papel decisivo en la promoción de esta iniciativa. La intuición fundamental fue ofrecer un potente instrumento radiofónico para anunciar el Evangelio y llamar a la conversión, a través de una programación explícitamente religiosa, asistida por voluntarios y sin publicidad.

Santa Barbara Catholic Church was created by Archbishop Edward McCarthy in 1987 to serve west Hialeah and the new City of Hialeah Gardens. Father Rafael Pedroso set about finding a suitable facility. He and the original community rented a warehouse and transformed it into a house of worship, blessed by Auxiliary Bishop Agustin Roman on November 25. On the First Sunday of Advent, 190 people attended Masses.

In the days when development in the area hardly extended west of University Drive, Saint Bartholomew established in 1962 served Miramar’s Catholics with Monsignor Noel Fogarty as the first pastor. Mass was first celebrated in Miramar’s firehouse and enthusiastic parishioners formed groups, clubs, and outreach ministries before the 1964 groundbreakings for school and church buildings.

Saint Bernadette was established in Hollywood in 1959, and an immediate major fund-raising campaign enabled parishioners to begin construction of a new building. The same year, parishioners formed a Men’s Club and a Holy Name Society, two groups that continue to involve themselves in many parish activities. And in that busy inaugural year, parishioners organized a picnic at Birch Taylor Park that attracted more than 500 people.
